Vilnius, 19 October 2026 – ToileRate, a project created in Lithuania, was launched on 19 October 2026 to help travellers check toilet cleanliness and practical access information before visiting cafés, restaurants and sights, using searchable location information on phones and computers without an app or registration.
How travellers can check a venue before arrival
Travellers can search by city, venue name or address, then review results on a map or in a list. Filters identify locations marked as having a toilet, open now, free to use, accessible without a purchase, wheelchair accessible, or equipped with baby-changing facilities. Directions can open in the user’s map application.
The website works on phones and computers and is available in English and Lithuanian. Searching does not require registration, while visitors can inspect practical information before deciding whether a venue fits their plans or route. The ToileRate toilet map can also help with route planning.
What the ratings actually measure
The rating applies to the toilet itself, not to the overall venue. Scores come from reviews by registered visitors, and cleanliness is a required assessment criterion. Ratings are not imported from Google or Facebook and are not generated by artificial intelligence, giving users a clearer basis for interpreting what each score represents.
Reviews and photos are checked before publication. Venue representatives may update practical information and respond publicly to reviews, but they cannot edit or remove visitor ratings. Payments and advertising do not influence scores, while information that has not been established is labelled as unknown for greater clarity when planning.
Visitors can also report whether a location was operating, closed or refused access without registering. These reports appear separately from formal ratings, so a recent access experience is not presented as a cleanliness score. Travellers may contribute reviews, photos and suggested locations, helping improve the information available to others over time.
Read directory information carefully
The directory is intended to support decisions before arrival, but its information should be read precisely. A listed location is not automatically a verified public toilet or a facility with a cleanliness rating. Toilet availability may remain unconfirmed, and unknown information is shown rather than replaced with an assumption.
This distinction matters when comparing venues: practical access details, visitor status reports and toilet ratings describe different aspects of a visit. Checking each separately helps travellers avoid treating one type of information as proof of another. For the journey, a quick look at toilets in London is useful.
