Residents, businesses and organisations across Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire can attend 13 free Greater Cambridge Local Plan Consultation Exhibitions from Tuesday 1 September to Friday 11 September. The first opens at 2pm at Arbury Community Centre in Cambridge. Advance registration is not required, although visitors can register optionally to help organisers plan attendance.

The exhibitions offer a chance to speak directly with the Planning team before the consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 25 September. Cambridge City Council said the proposed Local Plan would guide development across Greater Cambridge for the next 20 years, including where homes, jobs, community facilities and infrastructure are located.

Planning officers will explain the soundness test

Members of the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning team will explain the proposals, answer questions and help visitors understand how to make a representation. This is the final consultation stage before the Local Plan is submitted to the Government for independent examination.

Free Greater Cambridge Local Plan events start 1 September

Comments at this stage concern whether the Plan is ‘sound’ under national planning rules. That involves considering whether it has been positively prepared, is justified by evidence, can be implemented effectively and is consistent with national planning policy.

Cllr Henry Batchelor, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Planning, said the exhibitions would help people understand both the focus of this consultation stage and the process for expressing their views. Cllr Katie Thornburrow, Leader of Cambridge City Council, highlighted housing needs, economic growth, climate change and infrastructure among the changes addressed by the Plan.

No advance registration; comments close on 25 September

Admission is free, and people may attend without booking. Optional registration is available for those who want to help Greater Cambridge Shared Planning estimate attendance. The council notice does not provide transport or accessibility information for the individual venues.

Residents can also view the Proposed Submission Greater Cambridge Local Plan, check exhibition details and submit comments online through the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning website. Representations must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 25 September.
