Renfrewshire Employability Month: free Paisley events: key details

Renfrewshire Employability Month will bring free recruitment events, skills workshops and career support to Paisley from Tuesday 1 September to Thursday 24 September. The opening Employment Support Showcase starts at 11am at Lagoon Leisure Centre, while later sessions will be held there, at the University of the West of Scotland and at the Russell Institute.

The programme is open to school pupils and parents, young people, jobseekers, people returning to work and anyone considering career progression or a change of direction. Most sessions are drop-in events, although places for the recurring CV and interview workshop must be booked by email.

Five ways to get employment support in September

Get Involved in Volunteering Thursday 17 September, with sessions at 10am and 11.30am at the Russell Institute. No booking is required.
Careers and Jobs in Renfrewshire Thursday 24 September, 10am–1pm at Lagoon Leisure Centre. The drop-in fair will feature employers, industries and current vacancies.

The Getting Career Ready sessions provide CV support and mock interview practice. Skills for Success combines talks, interactive workshops and networking, while the volunteering event is intended for residents who want to explore opportunities across Renfrewshire.

Employers and opportunities represented

Approximately 50 employers are expected to participate during the month. Those named by the Renfrewshire Local Employability Partnership include Home Instead, Bluebirdcare, McTaggart Construction, Onecloud Healthcare, Visiting Angels and HMRC, alongside Renfrewshire Council’s Modern Apprenticeships and Traineeships.

The final Careers and Jobs in Renfrewshire fair is open to people who are unemployed, returning to work, changing careers or simply reviewing their options. Visitors will be able to meet employers from several industries and learn about vacancies currently available.

Renfrewshire Employability Month is organised by the Renfrewshire Local Employability Partnership, which has operated for more than 15 years. Renfrewshire Council says its employability services supported more than 1,900 residents into employment, education and training opportunities during the past year.

Councillor Andy Steel, convener of the council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said the programme brings together support for residents seeking new skills, qualifications or their next professional step.

Booking and contact details

Every listed event is free. The Employment Support Showcase, volunteering sessions and careers fair are drop-in events. Skills for Success accepts advance Eventbrite bookings but also permits entry on the day; the four Getting Career Ready workshops require booking by email.
