Bishop’s Castle teens have until 28 August for sport pass

Young people aged 17 and under can access six weeks of activities at SpArC Bishops Castle Leisure Centre for £35. The pass is available only to new junior members and must be purchased in person at the centre by Friday 28 August.

The summer offer covers junior gym sessions, swimming, football and squash. Shropshire Community Leisure Trust and Serco Leisure, which operate the centre on behalf of Shropshire Council, say it is intended to give teenagers an affordable and flexible way to stay active during the school break.

Six weeks of swimming, gym sessions and sport

The pass brings several activities together under one payment rather than limiting junior members to a single sport. Holders can use the swimming pool, attend junior gym sessions and take part in football and squash during the six-week period.

That range leaves room for different approaches to the holidays. A teenager interested in fitness can use the junior gym provision, while those who prefer the pool or team and racket sports have other options at the same venue. The offer can also give young people a chance to try an activity they have not used at the centre before.

Rhys Collins, contract manager for SpArC Bishops Castle Leisure Centre, said the long summer holiday can make it difficult for parents to keep young people active and engaged. He described the pass as a way for teenagers to choose from several activities, spend time with friends and maintain their fitness during the break.

The offer is restricted to new junior members

The £35 price applies to a six-week pass, but eligibility is narrow: applicants must be aged 17 or under and must be new junior members. Existing junior members are not included in the published offer.

Councillor Ruth Houghton, the local councillor for Bishop’s Castle and portfolio holder for social care, highlighted the combination of sport and swimming available across the six weeks, including the chance to use the pool during the summer.

In-centre purchases close on Friday 28 August
