Free Blackpool Switch-On Watch Party set for 4 September: what residents need to know

A big screen inside Blackpool Tower Ballroom will carry the Illuminations Switch-On concert live on Friday 4 September 2026. The first Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On Watch Party is free and aimed particularly at residents and visitors who missed out on tickets for the main outdoor arena.

The ballroom event will give hundreds more people a place to see the concert and the moment the resort’s Illuminations are switched on. Tickets are available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Tower Ballroom will carry the full concert live

The Watch Party is being staged inside Blackpool Tower Ballroom at The Blackpool Tower on the Promenade. It is the first dedicated indoor viewing event of its kind in the history of the annual Switch-On.

The live broadcast will follow the concert taking place in the main Switch-On arena on the Tower Festival Headland. That arena had an allocation of 20,000 tickets distributed through a ballot, leaving the ballroom as a separate option for people who were unsuccessful.

BBC Radio Lancashire presenters Graham Liver and Sharon Hartley will host the concert. The programme includes singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan, rock band The Feeling and a headline performance by British pop group Five.

BBC Radio 2 presenter Paddy McGuinness will then take to the stage for the switching-on moment, which ballroom ticket holders will be able to watch live on the screen as the Illuminations come to life.

An alternative for residents and Blackpool visitors

The Watch Party is designed to preserve the shared atmosphere of Switch-On night without providing admission to the outdoor arena. Its audience will follow the same concert broadcast from inside the ballroom before seeing the central lighting moment live.

Blackpool Tourism Limited Managing Director Kate Shane MBE said demand for Switch-On tickets is consistently high. The new event is intended to expand access by allowing hundreds of additional spectators to experience the concert in the heart of the resort.
