Free care robotics showcase in Milton Keynes on 9 September

Robots designed to deliver medicines, provide physical assistance and monitor wellbeing will be demonstrated at a free Milton Keynes event on Wednesday, 9 September 2026. The RoboPASS Social Care Robotics Drop-In Day runs from 11am to 5pm at the Smart City Experience Centre, 26-28 Silbury Boulevard.

Hosted by Milton Keynes City Council, the drop-in is open to the general public as well as health and social care professionals and technology businesses. It offers visitors a chance to see emerging equipment in action and consider how robotics might support people in their homes and care settings.

What visitors can see at the drop-in

Demonstrations will cover several practical uses for social care robotics. These include delivering medicines, helping people physically, monitoring health and wellbeing, and handling routine tasks.

Together, the examples show the range of roles being considered for robots in daily care: completing specific practical jobs, assisting people with activities and providing information about wellbeing. The event also creates an opportunity for visitors, care professionals and technology developers to discuss how those uses might affect future health and social care services.

The technology is presented as a way to support independent living and carers, rather than replace personal care. Councillor Lauren Townsend, deputy leader of Milton Keynes City Council, said technology would never replace the human relationships at the heart of good care, but could help people remain independent for longer and support carers.

Why the council is holding the showcase

The event forms part of RoboPASS, a project led by Milton Keynes City Council examining how robotics can be introduced safely and responsibly in public services and everyday environments.

According to the council, findings from the project will be used by local authorities and other organisations around the UK when testing and deploying robotic technology. For attendees, the showcase provides an early look at the types of machines being considered, alongside a chance to contribute to conversations about their potential role as demand for care services grows.
