Lancashire students weigh next steps after results

Lancashire students receiving A-level, T Level, BTEC and other level 3 results on 13 August 2026 have been told that support is available if their grades change plans for university, work or training.

Lancashire County Council said early reports pointed to full pass rates in a range of subjects and strong outcomes across post-16 providers, including colleges and school sixth forms. The council stressed that the complete countywide picture was still being confirmed.

County Councillor Matthew Salter, the council’s cabinet member for Education and Skills, congratulated students for their dedication, hard work and perseverance. He also acknowledged that results day can bring disappointment as well as celebration, and said students whose grades were not as hoped had options and support available.

Early results across Lancashire providers

The council’s initial update covers A-level results alongside T Levels, BTEC qualifications and other level 3 courses. These are different post-16 study routes, but the council’s message applies to young people receiving results across them.

It did not publish countywide attainment figures or a final breakdown by subject or provider. The early reports of full pass rates in some subjects should therefore not be treated as a complete results picture for Lancashire. Further confirmation will be needed before the overall county position is clear.

Salter said students should be proud of their accomplishments and the opportunities their skills, talents and interests may open up, whether they choose further education, professional work or another path. He also thanked education staff who supported young people through their study programmes.

Options for students whose plans have changed

Students intending to continue into higher education are advised to contact the provider they had planned to attend and discuss the options available to them. This is the council’s stated first step for anyone whose results affect their intended study plans.

For young people whose results were not what they hoped for, the council points to two local support services: Talkzone and the Youth Futures Team. Both can help students consider next steps without suggesting that one set of results determines every future route.

Support during the August decision period

Talkzone is a specialist confidential support service with trained advisers. Students can speak about exam results as well as concerns including feeling low, relationships, finding work or training. It is available from 2pm to 10pm every day, including weekends and bank holidays.

The Youth Futures Team can be contacted by phone, email or an online self-referral form. It is also hosting in-person and online events throughout August for young people considering their next move. Parents and carers can contact the service as well as young people.
