Family Fun Days bring vintage cars and seaside to Stafford

A 1924 Duchess Rolls Royce will become a hands-on history exhibit when Family Fun Days arrive at Staffordshire History Centre. Families can choose between a transport-themed programme on Tuesday 18 August 2026 and a beach-themed day on Tuesday 25 August 2026, both at the Eastgate Street venue in Stafford.

One week later, the centre will work with the Stafford Library team to bring a beach theme to Eastgate Street. The confirmed programme includes crafts, story times, dressing-up activities and family trails.

This second date also connects with the centre’s current Leek to Llandudno exhibition. The exhibition explores the long association between people from North Staffordshire and holidays in the Welsh coastal town. Its family-facing elements include seaside objects, a ticket-stamping trail and a toy ice cream stand.

The two dates therefore offer distinct choices: vintage vehicles and transport activities on 18 August, or crafts, stories and seaside-themed activities on 25 August. Families interested in the exhibition may find the beach day the more closely linked of the two programmes.

Local-history and ancestry help at the centre

The activity days sit alongside the Staffordshire History Centre’s wider role as a place for exploring the county’s past. Visitors interested in ancestry can ask staff and volunteers for help beginning family-history research and looking for information about their ancestors.

Hayley Coles, Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for communities and culture, said the centre combines family activities with opportunities to learn about Staffordshire’s history and research family trees.

According to the council, the centre has welcomed more than 28,000 visitors since opening in November 2024. Those visits have included people attending exhibitions, exploring local history and conducting family-history research.
